The Arctic as a National Megaproject

On June 5-7, 2016 in Arkhangelsk Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University hosted the All-Russian science and practice conference “The Arctic as a national megaproject: personnel and research support”.

On June 5-7, 2016 in Arkhangelsk Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University hosted the All-Russian science and practice conference “The Arctic as a national megaproject: personnel and research support”.

PetrSU was represented at the conference by Vladimir Siunev, the Vice-Rector for Research, Valery Gurtov, the Director of the Budget Monitoring Center, Svetlana Shabaeva, the Deputy Director of the Budget Monitoring Center, and Natalia Kuznetsova, the postgraduate student of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences. All the representatives of PetrSU took active part in the conference.

On the first day of the conference the participants held project and analysis session “Training Personnel for the Arctic: Moving from Problems to Solutions”, where they worked in three groups and brainstormed the main issues of personnel needs of the Arctic and discussed the solutions to these problems (http://narfu.ru/life/news/university/244537/).

Svetlana Shabaeva moderated the work of the group “Development of Secondary Vocational Education”.

Natalia Kuznetsova presented the content of the historical and educational web-resource “Old Believers of the Arctic Region: Yesterday-Today-Tomorrow” at the final stage of the contest of project ideas among youth “Discover the Arctic”. The judges awarded the postgraduate student with the 3rd degree diploma in the nomination “Preservation of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Arctic Exploration” (http://narfu.ru/life/news/university/244597/).

On the second day of the conference Vladimir Siunev delivered the report “The Role of Universities in Implementation of Arctic Strategy of Russia: the Practice of PetrSU” at the sectional meeting “Development of Human Capital in the Arctic: Experience of Implementing Educational Projects”. Valery Gurtov presented his report “Personnel of Higher Scientific Qualification ­– Training, Attestation and Strengthening the Research Capacity in the Arctic Region of Russia” at the sectional meeting “Experience of Doing Research Work in the Arctic Region of Russia”.

The conference was attended by large delegations; among the participants were the officials of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Alexander Klimov, the Deputy Minister, Vladimir Timonin and Sergey Kartoshkin, the Deputy Ministers of sector departments, rectors, vice-rectors, directors of institutes and colleges that train specialists for the work in the Arctic region of Russia.

The conference became a place for the event of historical significance – the signing of the agreement on the establishment of National Arctic Research and Education Consortium (http://narfu.ru/life/news/main/244585/).

Petrozavodsk State University became one of 14 partners of the Consortium.
